As the US tech industry reckons with the arrival of DeepSeek, a Chinese AI chatbot which shot to global popularity despite allegedly costing a fraction of the money poured into rival ChatGPT, US President Donald Trump on Monday called the industry-changing event a “wake-up call” for Silicon Valley to explore more efficient avenues to maintain US technological dominance.
